Computer Information Systems (CIS) Program
Department of Business Information Systems |
MBA - Computer Information Systems |
| Introduction |
|
Computer Information Systems (CIS) is an area of concentration offered by the Department of Business Information Systems for the MBA programs. The primary focus of CIS is to provide all graduate students with both technical and conceptual knowledge and skills of enterprise-wide Information Technology (IT) in order to prepare them to handle complex IT issues or as IT managers or executives in various businesses and industries. Specifically, students will learn how to conduct integrated IT and business strategic planning and management using the most popular Enterprise Resource Planning software on the market, SAP (BUS6180).
Additional regular elective courses (nine credit hours to claim the MBA-CIS concentration) are offered covering database administration using Oracle (BUS6300, system project management using SAP enterprise software (CIS6620), data warehousing and mining (CIS6640), networking matrix planning, design, and performance analysis (CIS6660). Special topics are also offered on a timely basis (e.g., CIS5550 or CIS6000) to cover current technologies such as Web server administrations, SAP ABAP/4 programming and emerging issues such as e-business design and management or telecommunications management . Graduate students who plan to choose CIS concentration are often guided by CIS MBA advisors for course planning and selection. If necessary, students with insufficient computer applications skills will be required to take one to three pre-requisites from business programming to system analysis and design. All graduates with a CIS concentration, once accomplished the MBA program, are expected to have solid training in both technical and managerial IT. MBA students with a CIS concentration may practice as interns at local firms such as Borgess, Bronson, Perrigo, Meijer, and Pfizer, etc. Recent graduates with a CIS concentration have been employed as Information System Manager, Database Administrator, Network and Security Analyst or Manager, Chief Technology Officer, and Chief Information Officer.
